Well, the thing is, it's not a zero-sum game. Enthusiasm begets
enthusiasm; but the thing is, it's a fire that requires careful
tending, else it gutters out.

Mmmm, I think it would be, considering the manipulative-bastards-
gaining-power-by-playing-to-the--the-far-religious-right that both
works were reacting to (especially in 2004, with Bush's reelection
before his approval ratings started to slide post-Katrina).
