Thank you Alaric for your comments and question!  Most of all, thanks
for reading :)  In truth, Kate was introduced in the first part of
this story, which was re-posted here a couple weeks ago.  Still, it is
a rough transition so I'll be mindful of that in the future.  I'm
really very happy at the reception Caleb has received here so thanks
for sharing with me the fact you think he is excellent.

As for what a "spade shovel" is, its primarily used for gardening
versus, say, clearing sidewalks or dirve ways.  Hope that helps with
the imagery!
