The Crossover Queen stood on the observation deck of the Crossover Citadel,
looking out across a sea of amber stars, each one the remnant of a community
from a generation ago. "I can feel the heartbeat of the world fluttering. What
are the portents?"

Behind her floated a shrouded figure, formless under a robe of shifting color.
They caressed a row of crystal spheres, within which were the dreamers; the
heads of great figures, storytellers and oracles, deathless but in a state of
eternal slumber. "Discord is destroying what it was built on. Meta chases after
a world it will never create. Twitter is crumbling to pieces, perhaps not to
last the year. And now, Reddit begins its fall into the endless night."

"Hubris becomes the doom of any empire." The Crossover Queen turned away from
the window, resolute in her stance and her voice; and if her eyes betrayed
doubt, they could not be seen in the light streaming in from behind her. "The
time approaches for Usenet to regain its glory."

"The battles we have fought are mere skirmishes, preludes, not fit for true
heroes to attend... but now, the stage lights are falling, the crew is shuffling
the scenery into place, and the curtains are soon to rise on the moment the old
world dies and the new is born. It is time to fight the monsters."

She turned to the hulking figure at her right hand, clad in strange armor
reminiscent of a knight. "Frederigo... it is time to gather the Thirteen."
