I enjoyed a lot of the dualities in this story.  (Like Occutultism Kid 
and Dr. Stomper.)  This is an especially good outcome of that and the 
other interpersonal relationships.  And I liked this comment about 
certain X-Men-related costumes.

The soldiers presented a pathetic but inspiring spectacle. The
hospitals were crowded with sick and wounded; the walls were
gradually crumbling under incessant shell fire, yet that garrison
of heroes remained undaunted.
