First post wrangling with the new Groups interface. Interesting.

More importantly, it's finally here - the first connection piece involving both
the Whisper entity directly, the as-yet-untold Platinum Line, and a handful of
other references! It's also a two-parter so stay tuned for the epilogue of:

Platinum Soul: A DiVerse Alpha Chronicle...?
by Felix

=====

Every Platinum Hero goes through the same experience. All but the first, since
Platina herself is the main event; but that is getting ahead of the tale. The
stories all start the same way, though:

"-and then the Whisper caught me up in its embrace, and spirited me away, I knew
not when nor where. But with its gentle voice, it calmed me, saying..."

<i have you for but a moment, child. wait, listen, look. remember.>

"And when the Mists of Transference cleared, I was floating in the sky, looking
down on a mountaintop theatre; and upon the stage there was an obelisk of the
purest jet, with words carved into its surface. I tried to look closer, and a
strange force dragged me down into the seating area - but now I could see
clearly what was written, the words we all knew - the Hero's Creed!"

"But a voice rang out, even as the thought formed in my mind, and cried, 'It is
not enough!' And as I watched, a worn and weary figure appeared at the back of
the theatre, and descended the steps - and it was her! The First, the Founder!
But not regal and flawless as the statues have her, no, this Founder was wrapped
in a burnt and frayed cloak, with a patch over one eye and a splash of blood
beneath it, lurching heavily with each step... but still! Still she made her
way forward, to the foot of the stage, and then up to the obelisk."

<i have kept my promise,> "said the Whisper, but its words were not for me. The
Founder raised one arm from beneath her cloak, covered in shining silvery metal,
and pointed to the sky - and her fingertip blazed red, then white, then Prisma!
'And so shall I,' said the Founder - and she turned to the obelisk, and seared
it with all the colors of the River, writing - new words! Changing - no,
expanding the Hero's Creed!"

"'Heroes,' the Founder called out - and when she did, I felt I was no longer
alone! I could see others sitting in the theatre with me now - so many!
Silvery shapes of those I remembered, those I somehow /knew/ despite never
seeing before, all filling the theatre, beyond what it should have ever been
able to hold!"

"'Heroes,' she continued, over the sound of Prisma scoring stone, 'I give you my
final gift - a greater and truer creed, one that frees you instead of binding
you. I have fought and suffered and nearly died to bring it here - but its
worthiness is not dependent on me! This creed is the source of your powers, the
source of your /true/ power, and it will - it /must/ - survive beyond me, beyond
any of you! So look upon it and remember!' And again I heard the Whisper,
calling-"

<look.  remember.>

"'It is done!' cried the Founder, as the flow of Prisma faded from around her
hand - panting, exhausted, but staring at me - right at me! 'Now, say it with
me! With /all of us/! Speak the words!'"

<speak the words.>

"And as the crowd swelled, the words of the Platinum Creed seemed to burst from
my very soul-!"

"A HERO NEVER QUITS - /IF THEIR WAY IS STILL TRUE/"
"A HERO SEEKS JUSTICE - /BUT FIRST OFFERS MERCY/"
"A HERO BELIEVES IN THEMSELVES - /AND THEIR FRIENDS, AND EVEN THEIR ENEMIES/"
"A HERO DOES WHAT IS RIGHT - /AND MAKES AMENDS IF THEY HAVE DONE WRONG/"
"A HERO MAKES THE WORLD BETTER - /BY WORD AND DEED AND PRESENCE/"
"AND A HERO LIGHTS THE WAY TO THE FUTURE THAT LIES BEYOND"

"SHINE!  PLATINUM HERO!"
