I finally reread the whole thing. It was amazing. It worked because it really embraced being a completely ridiclous off-the-rails mess and found a framework for having all these contrasting visions fit together. Also the whole thing revolved around a terrible pun. A+ ending.

Also it's funny how Omega was such a big deal back then and has more or less completely disappeared from memory now.
