I think part of the problem - not just in this story, but in Western interpretations of polytheistic pantheons in general - is that our aforementioned largely Christian society struggles with the idea of a being who is both divine *and* human; the idea that "holy and transcendent" and "selfish and jealous" are not exclusive categories, that one does not negate the other. (Actually, I'd also say it's a problem with superhero comics, and writers who have trouble conceiving that any human could really be that *good*.)

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're more on-target than, say, Disney was. (And you don't have anything like ASH's backstory - Dave, I love ya, but HOLY CRAP.)
