After a bit of thought, let High Concept Challenge 43 be:
'The eruption of the fantastic into the mundane'

This is one of the basic variations of our fantastic fictions: someone
going about their everyday business when weird sh!t turns their world
upsidedown, and how that person reacts. It can be a superhero story
where some ordinary schlub gets bitten by a radioactive origin, or a
fantasy story where a hobbit gets dragged off to take part in a raid
on a dragon's treasure horde, or a science fiction story where a newly
orphaned moisture farmer goes off to blow up a spacestation. Or for
a non-empowering variation, a horror story Lovecraftian critters drive
people mad with their mere presence.

Of course, 'mundane' is relative. The unexpected clash of magic using
elves with high tech orcs? A world where everybody has superpowers and
suddenly they stop working? What do gods worship, and how do gods react
when what they worship start making unreasonable demands?

So, post your stories of people coping with the outre by he end of the
month: 31st March 2014.
