Fortunately I realized while posting the ceremony that these weren't
2013 20th Annuals...
Today my commentary works best for me if I lump more Author Notes together.
Character Notes:
* Rachel Hawkins. Her creator Andrew Foltz had a very limited choice
of characters who weren't nominees. He'd put forward his 2013 character
Sharpshooter. But I'd considered his problem and suggested Rachel, who
at least had existed on Tumblr in 2012. That's why Rachel got
Sharpshooter's invitation to the RACCies. She provided a good viewpoint
for someone new to RACC, plus an important connection to a big Plot
Element. That's why I used her as the viewpoint character.
* Lydia Devin (The Goddess). I had to decide *which* Lydia to use. At
any given time in her story so far, there are two Lydias: one who's
still learning her powers in a flashback, and another who's transcended
those limits to be anywhere and anywhen she wants. The latter is
already popular for guest appearances, and she's a really useful Plot
Element, so I used her. Afterward, I really enjoyed the Goddess Night
of the RACCies story.
* Casey von Aluminumfoil. His creator Andrew Perron acts all surprised
that this 18-year-old is acting all grown up. But hey, the LNH Wiki
says he's introspective *and* he's inspired by his grandpa who was also
a superhero. Really, can you be any more mature than that?
* Obsessive Compulsive Boy. Again, I went off the LNH Wiki at first.
It's been pointed out that I may have gotten his compulsion powers
wrong, and trivialized the suffering that comes from Attention Deficit
Disorder when I had him suffer from it however temporarily. (Uh oh,
Andrew P. is trying out his critical review skills on a friendly Writer
again!) I have to confess, I got the disorders confused at first. By
the time I realized my error, the story was pretty much set. Still, I
think he fit the story better that way than as a whiny boy who stands
still a lot and can't see over the grownups. Besides, he was named
after a mental disorder before I got to him. Still, I apologize for any
error or offense.
* Lava Lamp. I've assumed power like Green Lantern and attitude like
early Booster Gold. Need I say more?
* Ultimate Mercenary. His creator Adrian J. McClure confesses to
forgetting to submit him for RACCie adventure action. I also have to
confess, I forgot that Adrian's characters from outside the Spoon of
Destiny existed - until I saw them getting awards. I also forgot what
exactly Ultimate Mercenary's relation to Ultimate Ninja was; I thought
they were father and son. Still, I figured them being trapped on an
award together would make for a nice scene. And I really enjoyed the
Ultimate Mercenary Night of the RACCies story.
* The Diabolical Devilman (The Devil). I *still* haven't figured out
what exactly his powers are. I have however figured that when he's
properly written, it just doesn't matter. His *real* power is, he knows
stuff and he's not an idiot. So he made a nice Plot Element too.

Story Notes:
I love that people are writing spin-off stories from the RACCies still,
especially since I *can't* do that this year. I considered calling this
year's ceremony "Night of the RACCies!", but then I realized the
traditional title would get a lot more attention.
And yeah, I totally understand why Beige Midnight did so well in the
polling. I'd expected a classic slug-out for an award between the
Powernaut and the Super Wizard from Space, and it's great that the LNH
joined in.
Thanks for all comments about the ceremony, especially the kind ones. 8{D>
