Two possibilities.

1) Everything happened so quickly that Firewire didn't have time to
react.

2) The opening to #9 provided some information about what else had been
happening.  Manga Man complaining about his powers not working, PAM II
getting stabbed and Firewire arriving just then could all have happened
concurrently.

I suspect a combination of both.  When many things happen at once it
takes longer to describe events than it does for them to take place.
