That's not been my experience with (e.g.) C.

So HTTP should have stuck with the One True definition of HTTP/1.0? Never
mind that nobody thought about virtual servers until too late.

I'm stunned by the hubris that says "we've got it completely and absolutely
right and will never need to change things".

And I'm not asking for complex versioning. Just a version number scheme
that allows for change when it turns out we need it.
