I agree.

The types of authentication available, and the process by which
authentication happens in the server are at least potentially
dependent on whether MODE READER has been issued. So requiring
authentication to come first doesn't seem to make any sense at all.
(However, I do not know enough about the authentication model in the
Diablo reader to know if this is something easily fixable in it.)
