Okay, how does the following sound?

The bytes value
- - MUST be at least the number of bytes in the article, counting CRLF as
   one byte;
- - MUST NOT be more than the number of bytes, counting CRLF as two bytes,
   plus 255;
- - SHOULD be the number of bytes, counting CRLF as two bytes.
