I agree. In fact I would seriously consider removing it entirely, except
that a few clients that use it appear to be falling out of the woodwork.

So we either remove it (it would remain in the extensions RFC), or leave
it in its broken state, or fix it and hope noone notices (I presume the
existing clients that use it would not care).

I could live with any of those, but I suppose the middle one is what we
will most likely do.
