Note that had this been the case for SMTP the SMTP pipelining extension need
not exist, and the SMTP pipelining RFC could have been reduced to documenting
how to do it. Unfortunately, some SMTP servers (notably sendmail) don't support 
pipelining.

In any case, if the servers out there handle it properly, then I see no
impediment (other than getting done at some point, perhaps) to documenting the
practice.
