It still works reasonably well if you shut off automatic newgroups for alt
groups ;-)  IMHO it beats trying to follow news.announce.newgroups for any
new groups that you might be interested in and then wondering when the
groups will get created locally.  Even if the server newgroups everything,
it would still be usable if your newsreader could be configured to filter
out anything that you weren't interested in (using wildmat patterns or
maybe something fancier that could be configured to get rid of the
verb.verb.verb groups).
