Actually, it's a particular make of jacket - popularized by the well-known
intrepid frontier explorer Pierre Zouave - which serves to protect the
extremities while being well-ventilated for the heat of Viral's frontier
deserts!

It just coincidentally happens to be /exactly/ like a Zouave jacket from Earth.

(It's the same thing, yes.  Specifically, take the jacket style from
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Papal_Zouave.jpg and color it
appropriately - dark green with black trim/accents.)
