Let's start again from scratch, then.

Do ALL existing servers support pipelining? Do ALL of them 
agree that pipelining cannot be done after certain commands?
If yes, there is no problem in stating this in the doc, but there is no need to discuss about which commands allow it
either.
If no, you want to state explicitly that some legacy server
will be no more considered compliant.

And while it is true that nobody could care to install a 
new version of an old server, it is also true that at 
least someone could *deploy* a new version, if the changes
are trivial.
